HOW I TEACH T’AI CHI CH’UAN

When I received permission to teach T’ai Chi Ch’uan in 1971, it was clear that my studies in sensory awareness; my background in dance and structural awareness of various sorts; and years of meditation were to inform my manner of teaching. And then my many years of study and certification in somatic psychotherapies also added to my information of how to work with different types of people who come to TCC for various reasons.

The T’ai Chi form is not just a form to me, it is a dynamic, energetic, healing process that can be integrated into all aspects of our lives. In my 38 years of teaching my intention has been to assist students to energetically feel what they are doing, how it informs them and how it can enable them to do what they want to do.

I am interested in students being able to understand and apply T’ai Chi principles in every aspect of their everyday lives – from how to walk, how to treat oneself, and the full integration of body, mind and spirit, and to interpersonal relationships.

SIMPLE HEALING HINT FROM T’AI CHI CH’UAN:
Stand with your feet parallel for 2 minutes every day.

This stance, parallel feet and shoulder-width apart, will equally open your paths of energy, front and back. It will ease strain and pain in your back and knees, support your digestive system, and encourage your circulation to be more balanced.

T’ai Chi Ch’uan is a great manner of healing. It has supported my health and informed me through many ups and downs of life, and now, in my 70’s, I can appreciate even more how T’ai Chi supports me in my aging, in staying flexible and strong, and also how it protects me and is still teaching me along the way. I love to share this grace – mental, physical and spiritual -- with others.

Come to this workshop and understand the dynamics of gravity, energy, and how to allow yourself to be supported by the earth and move with relaxation and grace.

The first section of the short Yang form which I will teach August 14-19 takes 1 1/2 minutes to do.

Come and spend 5 days to learn an exercise that takes 1 1/2 minutes to do…an exercise you can practice everyday and anywhere.

Learn to lower your stress and promote relaxation and healthy longevity and enhance your well-being for the rest of your life.

Most of the workshop sessions will take place on my t’ai chi deck, overlooking the water, on my property, a ten-minute walk from Hollyhock. Early morning practice begins with silent meditation, Qi Gong and T’ai Chi practice before breakfast. Daily sessions include thorough explanations of philosophy and examples of how T’ai Chi enhances our health, coordination, and stress reduction.

T’ai Chi Ch’uan, a traditional Chinese system of simple exercise for physical and mental development and coordination through a series of natural, relaxed movements, is a form of movement meditation that in China is renown for promoting longevity and well-being. It focuses on the improvement of health by teaching relaxation and centering; developing coordination and balance; releasing blocks and tensions; and facilitating energy flow.

My intention is always for participants to acquire a viable practice that they can take home and use to enhance their health and well-being through the integration of body, mind, and spirit.
I hope you will join me!!!
